The ritual

how to make cacao

Ceremonial cacao asks for very little. Warm water, a few minutes, and somewhere quiet to sit. Below are the three ways we make it: in a cup, on the go, and in a pan. Choose whichever suits your morning.

Using a sharp knife, gently chop your cacao into smaller pieces. It does not need to be perfect, just enough to help it melt smoothly.

  1. i. Add your preferred strength to your favourite cup.
  2. ii. Pour over a small amount of hot, not boiling, water.
  3. iii. Blend until smooth and velvety.
  4. iv. Top up with more hot water or your favourite plant-based milk.
  5. v. Finish with honey, cinnamon or a pinch of cayenne, if you like.

Drink slowly. Preferably somewhere calm.
